Red Hat Releases Latest Linux OS for Compaq Alpha

Red Hat Inc. announced today that the latest version of its popular open-source Linux operating system is now shipping for Compaq Computer Corp.'s Alpha systems.

Red Hat Linux 6.1 Deluxe includes features designed to make it easier to install, maintain and manage, Red Hat officials said. It can be purchased for US$79.95 from Red Hat's Web site, at http://www.redhat.com/commerce/, the company said.

Separately today, Red Hat announced the appointment of Michael Tiemann, co-founder and former chief technology officer (CTO) of Cygnus Solutions, as its new CTO. Red Hat said it completed its acquisition of Cygnus on Monday.

Tiemann replaces Marc Ewing, co-founder and former CTO of Red Hat, who will remain on the company's boatrd of directors.
