Survey: A third of IT managers will rent apps this year

Over one-third of information technology and development managers at large corporations expect to rent applications from application service providers (ASP) this year, according to a study conducted by Evans Marketing Services (EMS).

The strongest support for renting applications from ASPs came from professional services, which was defined as insurance, legal and real estate businesses, EMS said. Fifty-four percent of these firms supported renting applications.

According to the Enterprise Development Management Issues survey, 34.1% of banks/financial institutions and 32% of health care organisations supported ASPs. Both sectors responded favourably if the ASP was certified by an independent authority, EMS said.

The survey was conducted in December and examined the attitudes, usage patterns and intentions of over 400 development or IT managers responsible for more than 2,000 employees.
