SAN FRANCISCO (06/02/2000) - Umax Technologies Inc. will announce plans Monday to spin off a separate company that will develop and market networking equipment for small and medium-sized businesses, according to a statement issued late today.
UMax is most widely known for its digital imaging products, including desktop scanners and digital cameras. The new company, to be called MaxGate Inc., will sell network hubs, Internet gateways and other products that had previously been developed by UMax's networking communications division.
MaxGate will focus on developing products that are simple, affordable, and highly expandable, UMax said in the statement.
Umax's current networking offerings include Ugate, an all-in-one hub, gateway and firewall product that starts at US$250. MaxGate expects to extend the Ugate series later this year with three additional models, UMax said in the statement.
