EMC Racks Up Record Results

FRAMINGHAM (01/26/2000) - Last year proved to be a very good year for EMC Corp.

The Hopkinton, Mass.-based enterprise storage maker announced in a press release today that fiscal year 1999 was its "most successful ever." EMC tallied $6.72 billion in sales in 1999, a 24 percent increase from 1998. Profits in 1999 totaled $1.18 billion, a 50 percent increase from 1998.

EMC generated $1.88 billion in sales in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 21 percent higher than the same period last year. Excluding the Data General Corp. acquisition, EMC's profits totaled $377 million in the fourth quarter of 1999, 38 percent higher than its profits in the same period of 1998. The company's fourth-quarter profits following the charges it took for the DG acquisition amounted to $207 million.

Enterprise storage software continued to be a strength for EMC. Sales reached $822 million for 1999, up 85 percent from last year.
