UPC Starts Fixed Wireless Access Network in Norway

LONDON (01/27/2000) - United Pan-Europe Communications NV (UPC) is rolling out a fixed wireless access network in Norway, the company announced today.

The Netherlands-based cable communications company will operate the network through its wireless communications division, Priority Wireless, the company said in a statement. UPC claims to be the second largest cable operator in Europe after Deutsche Telekom AG.

The wireless network was launched in Oslo. UPC plans to expand throughout Norway over the next two years, using its existing UPC Norway wire line telecommunications network, UPC said.

The company will use its 3.5 GHz radio license in Norway to cover areas that are outside of UPC Norway's existing network, UPC said.

The fixed wireless access network will be geared toward providing broadband telephony and Internet services to small and medium-size businesses, UPC said.

UPC, in Amsterdam, can be contacted at +31-20-778-9860, or at http://www.upccorp.com/.
