SAN MATEO (01/28/2000) - Alcatel reveals integrated serverAlcatel SA announced the OmniPCX 4400, an integrated communications server designed to handle voice, fax and e-mail. It is based on a combination of Alcatel technology and technology from Packet Engines and Xylan, two of Alcatel's recent acquisitions. The OmniPCX 4400 is designed to scale from 50 users to 50,000 users and offers one-number mobility, unified messaging, voice-over-IP networking with quality-of-service management features, and integrated voice and data network management, Alcatel officials said.

3Com hooks into NDS eDirectory

3Com Corp. announced it has signed a licensing deal for Novell's NDS eDirectory. NDS eDirectory is a scalable LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)-based directory designed to let companies integrate users both inside and outside the enterprise into their directory. NDS eDirectory also aims to solve the problem of users of online commerce and services needing multiple identities and passwords. The deal between 3Com and Novell will center on providing user-based and network access policies through the integration of NDS eDirectory and 3Com's Transcend policy management software, 3Com officials said.
