Compaq, HP Join Others to Start New Company

SAN FRANCISCO (05/01/2000) - The chief executive officers of Hewlett-Packard Co. and Compaq Computer Corp. will join senior brass from 10 other high-tech companies at a press conference in New York this afternoon to announce the formation of a new independent company.

Compaq CEO Michael Capellas and HP CEO Carly Fiorina will host the press conference, which is due to kick off at 4 p.m. EDT at New York's W hotel on Lexington Avenue, according to a statement issued by the companies this morning.

No details were available this morning about the new company or the other high-tech firms involved.
