HP Readies Superdome Servers

Hewlett-Packard Co. will unveil its long awaited "Superdome" high-end Unix server at a Sept. 12 event in New York, according to a source close to the computer maker. Initially a 32-processor system, HP will roll out a 64-processor configuration later this year. Those familiar with the technology say that Superdome's capability to be migrated to Intel's IA-64 architecture via a board upgrade will provide a simple path to 64-bit computing.
