Australian charities are switching to the digital age, with Open Family Australia becoming the latest to offer donors online payment facilities on its website, developed by Ocean Internet.
Several charities, such as Care Australia and UNICEF Australia, already offer online donations, but http://www.openfamily.com.au is the first in Australia to use QSI Payments' secure internet payments.
Ocean Internet's general manager, Chris Hawkes, said QSI Payments' solution safely routed credit card details to the Commonwealth Bank for processing. He said Open Family did not store or have access to benefactors' credit card details, thereby eliminating the risk of abuse through unauthorised access of its database.
QSI Payments' internet payments solution uses the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology and provides the required formatting, encryption and digital signing of Digital Orders to ensure that payments are securely received by banks from customers.
Open Family's site also features a news page, photo gallery, a chat room, and information and application forms for street workers and volunteers.
Ocean Internet started life as an internet service provider and has since expanded into provision of custom-designed business software and website solutions. Its clients include the Royal Australian Airforce, West End Association and The Guam Gaming Authority.
Open Family is an organisation of street workers that helps street children to tap into support services and programs that are available in the local area.
