South Australian electricity supplier ElectraNet has named the KAZ Group as its three-year, multimillion dollar, managed services contract winner. Under the deal which starts this month KAZ will manage the utility's IT infrastructure.
ElectraNet's electricity network includes almost 6000 circuit kilometres of transmission lines spread across some 200,000 square kilometres of the state, and 73 substations and switchyards.
Mike Walters, ElectraNet's information services manager, said the deal follows a rigorous closed tender process and was the best "value for money" proposition.
"Due to ElectraNet's critical role in the electricity industry, our company requires guaranteed high availability and reliable IT support that can scale quickly to reflect changing market demands," Walters said, adding that KAZ presented an innovative approach to IT service delivery across the infrastructure and information systems.
Andrew Richardson said core service provisions under the contract are helpdesk, e-mail management, application development, LAN, desktop and technical workstation, maintenance and database administration, Microsoft Server platform management, support communications and firewall services.
