BOSTON (06/13/2000) - Compaq Computer Corp. customers who turn to the company for storage service as of Tuesday will be able to budget storage costs the way they plan for water or electricity expenses.
The Compaq Private Storage Utility is aimed at letting Compaq customers add terabytes of data as they need them and handle their storage fees on a monthly basis instead of as a capital outlay, Compaq said in a written statement announcing the software and service. Under the plan, customers pay Compaq a dollar per gigabyte per month for storage, with data hosted by the customer.
The storage utility includes consulting services to assist customers in determining their storage needs. Other services include installation, configuration, startup, capacity utilization and capacity reporting and storage management, Compaq said.
Compaq customers can buy several optional services to help with storage needs.
