FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (06/15/2000) - United Parcel Service of America Inc.
(UPS) announced on Wednesday it will buy a U.S. company focused on providing computer-related service and parts in Latin America.
UPS, through its UPS Logistics Group subsidiary, has entered into a "definitive agreement" to buy TSCI Holdings Inc., better known as Comlasa, which is based in Miami and provides computer-related field service, repair parts, inventory management and logistics in 37 Latin American countries, UPS said.
UPS made the acquisition because there is an increasing need for this type of service in Latin America, the company said. IT vendors pay companies like Comlasa to store repair parts for them and to dispatch those parts to clients that need them, as well as to provide on-site service to their clients, among other things.
Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
