SBC Debuts Enterprise Designer

SAN MATEO (06/28/2000) - To generate more steam around its pursuit of enterprise data customers, local phone giant SBC Communications Inc. on Wednesday unveiled a new network management modeling service aimed at large corporate customers.

The service is dubbed Enterprise Designer and it enables a corporate network manager to map out a computer model of local and wide area networks.

That capability, which can be worked on a laptop or PC, churns out models that predict the impact that new applications and traffic patterns will have on corporate networks.

Enterprise Designer is actually a blend of network mapping and simulation capabilities that SBC garnered by harnessing software from Netformx, in Los Gatos, California, and OpNetT Technologies, of Washington.

San Antonio-based SBC claims it is the first to dovetail products from the two companies. The company has pitched Enterprise Designer as a way to better service large customers after they deploy SBC solutions.
