TOKYO (06/28/2000) - E-mail service provider Critical Path Inc. is taking its first steps into Asia with the formation of Critical Path Pacific Inc., a joint venture with three Japanese companies.
The new company was established on May 25 by trading house Mitsui & Co. Ltd., Internet and telephone operator NTT Communications Corp. and NEC Corp. alongside Critical Path and capitalized at 2 billion yen (US$19.0 million), the companies said in a statement issued Tuesday.
Initially, Critical Path Pacific will establish a data center for e-mail outsourcing services targeted at corporations, Internet service providers, application service providers, portal site operators and wireless system operators, said the company. The company's services include applications such as Web-based e-mail and mailing list hosting that allow companies to outsource e-mail-related applications in the same way many companies now outsource their Web hosting.
With an early focus on business in Japan, the company is also eyeing other countries in Asia and Oceania.
Critical Path, in San Francisco, can be reached at +1-415-808-8800 or via the Web at http://www.cp.net/.
