Finance software vendor Attaché has announced a new distribution deal with retail colossus Harvey Norman, based around its small-to-medium enterprise (SME) accounting product, Catapult.
Attaché managing director Michael Rich said that the new retail deal will help to inject Catapult into the SME market, without coming into conflict with existing channel partners.
CHA is the master distributor of Catapult, selling the product to over 2000 resellers throughout Australia. The announcement of the CHA distribution deal in April also coincided with the launch of a $2 million advertising campaign aimed at promoting the software in a competitive marketplace.
Catapult consists of a fully scalable SME accounting software designed for three or more users.
Although the product is up against MYOB accounting software, Rich insists that Catapult will fill a gap in the market.
"SMEs are taking to MYOB because it is heavily advertised; we have a situation where too much software is being purchased off the back of a bus. When SMEs look at their options they realise the step up from MYOB offers far more than they need, and it is just too expensive. MYOB has this market by default, and we are offering a functional alternative.
"SMEs are increasingly installing small networks. They need to keep up with the technology. Catapult is specifically designed for small networks so it fits into the market neatly. Anyone who has tried to use software that is not specifically built for a network environment knows how important it is to invest in appropriate technology."
According to Rich, although Australia has a very low rate of software purchase, especially in the smaller end of the market, he is confident that the GST will boost sales in this sector in the long term.
"Australian businesses are not very good at buying software; they tend to focus on price rather than functionality. Because of the GST, businesses will have to produce regular reports and become far more familiar with the operations of their business. In the end they will see the benefits of sophisticated software," Rich predicted.
Despite the new deal with Harvey Norman, Rich confirmed Attaché's dedication to smaller channel players. The vendor is currently organising reseller training to be run in August.
"We want our resellers to have the skills and knowledge to really make Catapult move. Because it fits into such a wide market, and because there are no real competitors, resellers stand to make a lot of money," Rich said.
