Law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques has selected Enterasys and reseller Logical Asia Pacific for a $5 million networking deal, incorporating wireless and LAN technology.
It is understood that Enterasys and Logical won the contract over Nortel Networks and Cisco Systems, Malleson's incumbent network supplier.
Signed only last month, the deal includes around 1000 wireless cards, core backbone LAN and WAN infrastructure and Layer 4 switching technology.
According to sources, Mallesons is planning to upgrade its existing LAN with the wireless solution and other technology.
Under the contract, Logical will combine with Enterasys and Mallesons to install the technology. Additionally, Logical will manage the project and professional services.
Following the rollout in Australian offices, the solution will be implemented at Mallesons' offices worldwide. The law firm has offices in Hong Kong, London, Port Moresby, Beijing, Taipei and Jakarta.
According to Ian Fewtrell, managing director of Enterasys, the deal is Enterasys' most significant wireless contract in Australia to date.
Fewtrell said many other wireless contracts are in the pipeline. "Wireless is growing 70 per cent month on month. It is the greatest boom in technology I've ever seen," he said.
Kieran Bryce, NSW state manager for Logical Asia Pacific, said the deal was a "good win".
"It's fairly consistent with the types of customers we have," he said. "We are seeing a trend in the market with wireless becoming more prevalent."
Enterasys' network management solution, Spectrum, is also believed to be have been short-listed in a separate management contract under consideration by Mallesons currently.
Mallesons was not available for comment before press time.
