Motorola Wins US$21M WLL Contract in Nigeria

STOCKHOLM (07/04/2000) - Motorola Inc. announced Friday that it has won an expansion contract valued at US$21 million to broaden the reach of Intercellular Nigeria Ltd.'s fixed wireless local loop (WLL) networks in Nigeria.

Under the terms of an agreement, Motorola will deliver its Will infrastructure equipment based on 800MHz CDMA (code division multiple access) technology to expand Intercellular Nigeria's existing wireless local loop networks in Lagos and Port Harcourt, as well as for new deployment in the cities of Abuja, Onitsha, Kano and Kaduna, Motorola said in a statement.

The expansion will allow for up to 45,000 new subscribers. Motorola and Intercellular Nigeria, a national wireless telecommunications service provider, signed their first Will network contract in 1996.

Motorola said it has supplied cellular and wireless local loop infrastructure equipment to 23 African countries to date.
