Buys 45 percent Stake in 4Players

BERLIN (07/03/2000) - German ISP (Internet service provider) AG, a subsidiary of MobilCom AG, has acquired a 45 percent stake in games portal provider 4Players GmbH.

In a statement Monday, Freenet said the takeover would help further its growth strategy of offering "vertical, target-group oriented portals."

Asked about the financial terms of the deal, 4Players manager Malte Sander would only say that it is a cash transaction. "We won't tell anyone about the amount," he said, adding that 4Players is not publicly traded and has no immediate plans to go public.

Under the terms of an agreement, 4Players will create a German-language portal featuring, among other things, games previews and reviews, software updates, and games platforms including Playstation I and II, Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo 64, Freenet said.

The new portal is scheduled to be launched next month.

Freenet, in Hamburg, can be reached at +49-40-513060, or via the Web at 4Players, in Kirchheim, Germany, is at +49-180-3010431, or at
