LongReach shortcuts database programmingAustralian-owned LongReach Software has announced a new middleware product that eliminates Web page programming to migrate databases online. Dubbed dataLive, the software is a server-based solution providing browser-based access and manipulation of relational databases. According to the company, any user with a standard Web browser can search, insert, update and delete rows in ODBC-compliant database tables by sending request to a dataLive-enabled Web server. dataLive is compatible with a variety of popular databases including SQL Server, Oracle, Access and DB2, and conforms to database and XML standards. software targets equipment industriesLinkOne has released its latest electronic maintenance documentation system, Version 4, which has been developed to drive B2B e-commerce for equipment-intensive industries. The system's features and capabilities have been expanded to include "captive Web access", which allows live Web sites to be embedded in published documents. According to LinkOne, this makes the task of controlling security and access to the Web part of the documentation process, rather than the domain of computer technologists.
