SAN MATEO (07/13/2000) - Dell Computer Corp. Thursday announced it will add Windows 2000 as an operating system choice for DellHost customers using the company's dedicated hosting service running on Dell PowerEdge servers, according to officials for the Round Rock, Texas-based computer maker.
Introduced last February, DellHost has a client list of more than 2,000 businesses using either dedicated hosting services, or shared hosting, in which several different Web sites exist within the same server.
As part of the announcement, Dell also will drop the price of its shared hosting service to $14.95 per month, which includes customer support via email.
Adding telephone support for shared hosting brings the price tag back up to the previous monthly charge of $17.95.
Dell also dropped the price of its dedicated hosting service on Dell PowerApp.web appliance servers running Red Hat Inc.'s Linux 6.2 from $249 to $199 per month.
The company also will also waive the setup fee for customers opting for high-end dedicated hosting running on the company's PowerEdge servers, a $299 service.
Also part of the announcement, the DellHost Affiliate Program, which pays small businesses for referrals to DellHost.
