AOL to Bundle RealPlayer

WASHINGTON (07/13/2000) - America Online Inc. (AOL) will make available RealNetworks Inc.'s RealSystem 8 software throughout its network, giving AOL subscribers and other Internet users access to RealNetworks' latest video and audio streaming technology, the companies announced Thursday.

Under an agreement between AOL and RealNetworks, the deployment of RealSystem 8 will enable AOL to work with content providers to enhance interactive capabilities for users on the Internet, the two companies said in a release.

In addition, the companies said the next version of AOL's software, AOL 6, will deliver a multiplatform media player using RealPlayer streaming media technology. RealPlayer will be distributed with the Netscape browser and through Netcenter.

RealNetworks also will distribute Spinner, the free Web radio player based on RealPlayer technology, as well a bundle software with RealPlayer that enables users to easily sign up for AOL's service.
