Xerox in sharing mood
Xerox called in one of its US high flyers last week in the form of Dr Priscilla Douglas, knowledge management competency Xerox Corporation, to share the document company's views on Knowledge Management (KM).
Douglas' keynote address to the Sydney audience of Xerox corporate and government clients and industry identities concentrated on knowledge sharing practices designed to improve business efficiency in retaining and distributing information within a company.
"Knowledge is the new economic currency," stated Douglas.
The keynote gave Douglas the opportunity to plug a host of Xerox product offerings in the growing KM market, including DocuShare and Eureka.
Alcatel acquires Fibers
Paris-based Alcatel SA announced last week it would acquire Gatineau, Quebec-based Innovative Fibers for $US175 million.
Alcatel officials said the Canadian company's technology will add filtering and traffic-management capabilities to Alcatel's dense wave division multiplexing optical networking group.
The filtering technology, known as Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG), is a way to combine, control, separate and route individual optical wavelengths from the multiple wavelengths carried on a single fibre.
Alcatel officials said the company expects to complete the purchase within the next four weeks.
