Adobe Software Pricing May Wallop Wallets

FRAMINGHAM (07/20/2000) - Users of software from Adobe Systems Inc. may be in for a nasty shock when they price new software licenses Sept. 1.

Price increases will "range from a bit to 'Oh my God,' " said Josh Gamache, a sales representative for discount PC vendor PC Connection Inc. in Merrimac, N.H. Gamache defined "Oh my God" as "nearly double."

Prices for "almost all" of Adobe's software will go up Sept. 1, said Sarah Greenbaum, an Adobe reseller support representative, "but I don't think any will double."

Gamache said he received a letter from San Jose-based Adobe, which said the company would suspend software sales for two weeks this month.

That plan has been canceled, Greenbaum said, although the company may implement a three-day suspension before the Sept. 1 price increase.
