STOCKHOLM (07/24/2000) - Networking vendor Cisco Systems Inc. said Monday it plans to expand an existing software development and testing center in India, as well as later this year set up new such facilities in China and Ireland.
The centers will initially focus on enhancements to Cisco's IOS network systems software, including both new features and technologies for use in the company's global networking products as well as in support of more regional market needs, Cisco said in a statement.
In addition to software development, Cisco said it also plans to use the facilities for large-scale, end-to-end system testing to speed time-to-market deployment of new products for customers in each region. Further details about the planned new facilities were not available.
Separately, Cisco Monday also announced the launch of software upgrades for its IP (Internet protocol)--based IP/VC 3500 videoconferencing product family.
Version 2.0 of the software is designed to offer customers improved functionality and better audio and video quality, Cisco said in a statement.
Current IP/VC 3500 product users on SMARTnet contracts can download the 2.0 upgrades with new features for the gateway and video terminal adapter for free from the company's Web site, Cisco said. The upgraded version of the software with new multipoint control unit features will be available within 90 days.
