Australian Reseller News today launched its new Web portal, ARNnet, designed to be the home for the IT channel.
ARNnet represents a significant commitment by ARN and its publisher, IDG Communications, to provide the channel with a growing range of services beyond the delivery of breaking IT news.
The launch of the site coincides with the online publication of the 1999 Channel 100 report.
Compiled by ARN partners Inform, the Channel 100 is the only report to provide rankings and financial information on the top 100 resellers, service providers and distributors serving the Australian and New Zealand markets.
ARNnet is the brainchild of the ARN team and is supported by a number of industry partners including Express Data, Ingram Micro, LAN Systems, Siltek, Westan and Westcon.
The portal also replaces ARN's former Web site, ARN LiveWire, to serve as the channel's new online home.
Tamara Plakalo, ARN's online producer, explained the concept of building the portal is designed to give the channel community the ability to personalise the site's content to meet individual information needs.
"The customised site offers ARNnet users the opportunity to receive the latest news and product information according to their own personal profile," she said.
Plakalo said the site represents ARN's ambitious attempt to take the portal concept beyond personalised information.
"We now offer a number of customisable services that extend beyond our core competency, which is to deliver timely and accurate information to our readers," she said.
ARNnet is built on the Tibco platform, supported by Oracle and Lotus Notes databases. Web development was conducted in house by IDG IT staff Heidi Woof and Hendra Rusmana.
