BERLIN (07/31/2000) - KPN Telecom NV announced Monday a joint venture with Perot Systems Corp. to create customer service software. The project will encompass Internet, WAP (wireless applications protocol), and call center technology.
"It will create software for systems which make customer interaction possible," said Martine Kooreman, a spokeswoman for the Dutch company. "You can imagine for instance if someone wants to move his office, he's got a new address, normally you have to call us or you have to go to one of the KPN shops, and with the new software you can imagine that you can do it through the Internet."
KPN has signed an agreement to buy at least US$90 million worth of services from the new venture over the next three years, said Kooreman. She added that the software will also be available for sale to external clients, such as banks, insurance companies, or railways, with heavy customer-service orientations. Profits from the joint venture will be divided equally between KPN and Perot.
The new venture will be headquartered in Groningen, Netherlands, said Kooreman.
She added that her company chose its partner for the venture because Perot had already completed a lot of projects for KPN in the field, and "we know what they can do and we know what their specializations are."
