FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA (07/31/2000) - The rising demand from companies in Latin America for help with Internet-related activities has significantly boosted Electronic Data Systems Corp.'s IT services revenue in the region this year.
Of the 32 service contracts EDS has landed in the region this year, eight have "an e-business component," the company announced Monday.
EDS' IT service contracts in Latin America have generated US$260 million in the first half of 2000, compared with about $200 million in all of 1999, the company said.
Some of the companies that have hired EDS this year to supply IT services are Mexican airline Mexicana de Aviación SA de CV, Brazilian telecommunications provider Vesper and Argentinian supermarket chain Supermercados Norte SA, the company said.
