Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) has announced several additions to its year 2000 readiness program.
DEC, which Compaq is buying (CW January 30, p1), recently announced the Year 2000 System Healthcheck with support services. This will allow customers to conduct an inventory and assess their preparedness for 2000, related to products they use from DEC and selected partners.
Susan Alexander, DEC's South Pacific territory MCS marketing manager, said the program will be available in Australia.
Alexander said DEC service representatives will either conduct an on-site audit of the customer's IT infrastructure or audit the site via remote diagnostic tool "where geographic challenges exist".
Although confirming the service will be offered locally, Alexander was unable to say exactly when it will be available.
DEC and Accelr8 Technology Corporation have also jointly announced the addition of Accelr8's Year 2000 Toolset, Navig8 2000, to DEC's Year 2000 software tools.
According to officials, The Navig8 2000 Toolset provides advanced analysis capabilities for programs written in a number of languages, including Cobol, Basic, C and C++. It also supports the DEC extensions to these languages.
The tool set runs under OpenVMS (VAX and Alpha) and Unix.
Pricing depends on the choice of capabilities and number of lines of code required. An unlimited-use licence is also available.
