SAN MATEO (08/04/2000) - Cisco Systems Inc. this week said it will acquire wireless systems software company IPmobile for US$425 million in stock, increasing its acquisition tally to 16 networking companies bought this year.
IPmobile develops IP-RANs (IP radio access networks), which connect wireless transmission base stations to the Internet. RANs manage and control the radio networks between user devices, such as Internet-capable cell phones, and base stations. They also provide access to data and voice services. IPmobile works with third-generation wireless technology. Both companies' boards of directors have approved the deal, but it remains subject to closing conditions and should be complete by Cisco's first fiscal quarter of 2001.
