MeshNetworks on Tuesday announced a technology and market development agreement with ViewSonic to add mobile routing to handheld devices.
The companies will jointly develop a mini-PCI card version of MeshNetworks' peer-to-peer mobile routing technology for use in ViewSonic's SuperPDA and ViewPad Tablet PC products.
MeshNetworks' technology enables mobile communications devices to act as peer-to-peer routers and repeaters. In contrast, cellular devices communicate with a central controller that requires a number of cell sites to ensure wireless coverage.
The MeshNetworks system can support IP-based multimedia services, including voice, data and video, for mobile personal Internet devices and fixed wireless networks.
The company will feature the ViewSonic ViewPad 100 SuperPDA and ViewPad 1000 Tablet PC during demonstrations of its peer-to-peer technology at CTIA Wireless 2002 show in Orlando from March 18 through March 20.
