Online buying group to bat for SMEs

A new online buying group is set to launch on the Australian market next week in an effort to offer small business competitive IT and non-IT products and services.

According to public relations outfit Gotley Nix Evans (GNE), b2bBuyer.com.au will launch on August 24 to give small to medium size businesses the cost advantages of group buying via the Internet.

"It will give them all the benefits of volume discounts they are unable to achieve individually, without having to outlay tens of thousands of dollars to get started," the company said yesterday in a media invitation to the launch.

The aggregated buying group is reportedly free for buyers on the site, while "seller-users" will pay $500 for access to customer opportunities.

GNE explained the site will pass on customer data where permitted to vendors, manufacturers or suppliers. It will also attempt to leverage customer demand for competitive pricing and marketing muscle it claims will rival that of large enterprisesExecutives from b2bBuyer.com.au were not available for comment.
