Gates to discuss .Net Down Under

Microsoft has announced today Bill Gates will visit Australia during September to share Microsoft's .NET strategy with Australian audiences.

During his visit, Gates will meet with partners, government officials, and customers to explain Microsoft's new Internet platform built on open Internet protocols and standards.

According to Paul Houghton, managing director of Microsoft Australia, .NET will bring with it an "amazing new era of computing that will be more exciting than anything seen before."

"It will create a new generation of Internet software and services that give Australians the Web the way they want it," he said in a press statement. ".Net is a new platform, user experience, and set of advanced software services that will empower a wider range of devices to work together and connect seamlessly."

Gates' Australian itinerary is not short on public appearances. He will be the key note speaker at the World Economic Forum in Melbourne on September 12 and will attend a number of customer, partner and government events as well as hosting a press conference in Sydney on September 11.

Gates' will also attend the Sydney Olympics while in Australia on holidays.
