\Computer Associates International (CA) Monday released eTrust Internet Defense, an integrated software package designed to protect companies doing business online from attacks and security breaches, a growing problem for IT departments.
"The old e-business strategy that many businesses put into place focused on antivirus and firewall solutions ... is not enough," said Robert Weller, business manager in CA's eTrust security solutions division. "As the complexity of threats rise, the complexity of security software needs to rise as well."The eTrust Internet Defense suite "is what we (CA) suggest e-businesses include (to secure their sites and networks) as they move forward in the e-business arena," Weller said.
CA's eTrust package includes six programs, which can be licensed separately or as an integrated suite. The applications can detect, analyze, warn, prevent and cure attacks, including malicious mobile code, worms, viruses or intruders and hackers attempting to attack an e-commerce Web site, according to the company.
The eTrust Internet Defense suite includes:-- eTrust Firewall, which enables companies to provide its authorized users with Internet/intranet/extranet access while keeping intruders out;-- eTrust Content Inspection, which includes real-time attack intervention and automatic detection, blocking and notification of all types of malicious content.
-- eTrust Intrusion Detection, which provides real-time, non-intrusive detection, policy-based alerts and automatic prevention;-- eTrust VPN (virtual private network), which allows companies to keep their e-business systems safe against network hackers;-- eTrust Anti-virus (InoculateIT), which provides real-time protection; and-- eTrust Internet Defense, which allows companies to migrate to the complete software suite and allows e-businesses to take advantage of CA's risk assessment services.
Citing a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, CA said that the damage from cyberattacks has cost nearly US$1.5 trillion just this year.
CA's Weller pointed to this year's DoS (denial of service) attacks, the ILOVEYOU virus, and hackers and intruders who can circumvent firewalls and antivirus software as security risks that the eTrust Internet Defense suite can protect against.
The suite integrates with competing firewall and antivirus products, Weller said. All its components run on Windows platforms, but only some of the software programs can be used in a Linux environment. A spokeswoman for CA confirmed that the entire eTrust Internet Defense package will run on Linux within the next two months.
ETrust Internet Defense also encompasses home-user versions of two of its programs, Content Inspection Personal Edition and InoculateIT Personal Edition, which can be downloaded for free from CA's Web site, Weller said.
Pricing for eTrust Internet Defense for e-businesses is determined on a case-by-case basis, but Weller assured that the price "will be very much within the market" range.
