Sprint Corp. on Wednesday introduced Sprint PCS Wireless Web for Business that offers access to applications, corporate e-mail, intranets and corporate directories.
Beginning in September, Sprint will offer the new business suite that provides speeds comparable to a 56.6K-bps (bits per second) land-line connection, the company said in a statement. The company said new bandwidth optimization technology on the Sprint PCS Network and Sprint PCS Dialer 2.0 software assists with the wireless data transmission speed.
The Westwood, Kansas-based company's new business service will provide access to content and applications directly on the browser of Internet-ready Sprint PCS phones.
The services that will be available include:-- Corporate e-mail;-- Wireless access to Microsoft Corp.'s Exchange and Lotus Development Corp.'s Notes;-- Corporate directory services;-- Corporate travel services; and-- Sales and field service applications, such as customer account information and the ability to review and update sales opportunities.
To develop its new business offering, Sprint worked with Lotus, Wireless Knowledge LLC, which is a joint venture of Microsoft and Qualcomm Inc., Siebel Systems Inc., Sabre Holdings Corp. and Peoplesoft Inc.
Later this year, Sprint PCS Wireless Web for Business will offer a custom link on the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Browser that provides employees with a single location to access e-mail, sales tools, travel services, corporate directories and other content and applications.
In other Sprint news Wednesday, the company announced that it will use Sierra Wireless Inc.'s Aircard 510 as its Sprint PCS Wireless modem. The CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) card will connect a user's laptop to the Internet with the wireless modem. The card uses Qualcomm's sixth-generation MSM300 Mobile Station Modem chipset and system software. The card fits in a standard type II slot and has an internally stored antenna, the company said.
