NSI to Test Multilingual Domain Names

Domain registrar Network Solutions Inc. in Herndon, Va., said this week it will start a test program that will allow registration of multilingual domain names in 55 languages and character sets through the 60 or more registrars accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers in Marina del Rey, Calif. I-DNS.net International Inc. in Palo Alto, Calif., which developed a system to recognize non-ASCII characters, will supply the technology for the test. Among the languages that will be supported are Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew.
