MIMP wins excellence award for network rollout

Adelaide-based MIMP Computer Cable has taken out the voice and data communication category - projects under $250,000, at the National Electrical and Communications Association State Excellence Awards.

MIMP received the award for its Radio Frequency wireless link installed for international electronics manufacturer, Entech. The link saved the company more than $500,000 through lower software licence fees and leased line rental, and made its corporate private network 125 times faster.

David Sloan, Entech IT Manager, said the project was a "no brainer". "The link paid for itself in months with the money we saved on licence fees and Telstra lines. Centralising our data has literally transformed the way we do business."

According to Sloan the RF network delivered numerous unexpected spin-offs. "The voice-over-data facility means we only need one receptionist for all three sites and allows online training for new employees," he said.

Allan Aitchison,MIMP general manager, said companies chose to ignore the savings and benefits of networking advancements at their own peril."Networking isn't as sexy as the latest software or website but it's the plumbing that makes everything work."
