Enterprise DSL Customers Eyed

Eyeing enterprise customers that want to purchase blanket DSL connections, DSLnetworks on Tuesday hooked up with Level 3 Communications Inc. on a deal also intended to woo ISPs and ASPs (application service providers).

Under the three-year strategic alliance, San Francisco-based DSLnetworks will piggyback its wholesale DSL access service through Level 3's six gateways and across the Broomfield, Colo.-based carrier's IP backbone.

"Until now, if you were an IT director charged with a DSL rollout, you'd have to build up the staff to process and manage the orders across the enterprise or ISP," said Brad Connors, president and CEO of DSLnetworks.

Without national DSL options, enterprises have had to work with multiple regional carriers or partner with emerging players, Connors continued.

DSLnetworks will have its national presence by co-locating in the Level 3 gateways and using virtual connections to other portions of Level 3's 16,000-mile fiber-optic network.

DSLnetworks will offer service to Level 3 customers first on a limited basis, but by year's end will finish installing all equipment and complete interconnections.
