Listed IT company Solution 6 has taken strides to complete the recovery from its public relations disasters of earlier this year by appointing the high-profile and broadly experienced Neil Gamble as its new CEO.
Gamble's resume includes recent tenures as CEO at both pay TV broadcaster Australis Media and Sydney's Star City Casino. He fills the role which was left vacant when Chris Tyler resigned in May this year and which Lindsay Yelland has covered in the interim.
According to South African-educated Gamble, who has been on the board at Solution 6 for over six weeks, he is no virgin to the IT industry. He worked with Digital Equipment Corporation for a couple of years in the early 1980s and then spent six years with Wang Laboratories from 1982.
At the time of appointment to the CEO's role at Solution 6, Gamble was also involved with other ventures including Concept Systems, B4BCO Ltd, Stargames and Mobile Innovations.
When Gamble was asked whether he considered Solution 6 to be a vendor, integrator or reseller, he responded, "probably all of the above. There is a reseller business there today and I intend to see what we can do to grow that. I am also a great believer in the ASP model and there is opportunity there for us. I know [the ASP business model] has taken a while to get off the ground and that it will be a while before it provides a positive financial return for Solution 6, but the whole concept seems to me to be highly desirable for the customer. That is a great opportunity for the reseller market."
Gamble was quick to point out that Solution 6 also has "a large consulting arm" as well as "a large array of software and business solutions. All channels of distribution and sales and marketing will be pursued vigourously," he said.
Gamble said that his key focus from here is to "expand both organically and by acquisition. Never forget organic growth," he said. "It is the least expensive and the best opportunity for a company like this with so many good products and so many new opportunities geographically. If you look at the strategic plan of the company and the product and geographic opportunities, there are some gaps that represent acquisition opportunities."
Gamble said he was "excited at becoming CEO of "an extremely promising global Australian company. Solution 6 is in a unique position with its leadership in the professional services arena, and I see tremendous opportunity to leverage and strengthen these relationships," he said. "The company's strengths are abundant, and the potential is enormous."
