IBM Updates ViaVoice for Windows

IBM Corp. released the latest update of its voice recognition software ViaVoice Tuesday.

ViaVoice for 8.0 will be available in stores September 5, ranging in price from US$29.95 for the basic Personal Edition to $199.95 for the Pro edition, the company said in a statement. IBM said the product has faster set up time, improved correction capabilities and expanded features to command and control the desktop with voice.

ViaVoice will compete with the release of the latest version of Dragon System Inc.'s NaturallySpeaking software in September, featuring a new user interface, usability improvements, and support for Intel's upcoming Pentium 4 microprocessor. It will be the last voice recognition software suite made exclusively by Dragon Systems, which was acquired last year by Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products Inc.
