SAN CARLOS, CALIFORNIA (09/15/2000) - Corio Corp. this week added a hosted messaging service to its portfolio of application service provider offerings.
Known as Corio Messaging Solutions, the new service includes two products: Hosted Microsoft Exchange, featuring Microsoft Outlook and Corio Mail.
Enterprises looking for more sophisticated messaging features such as collaboration and groupware would go with the Exchange product, while those seeking simple mail capability would rent Corio Mail, says Chris Casanega, Corio's director of marketing. Corio Mail offers basic Post Office Protocol 3 and Internet Message Access Protocol 4 mail.
Corio has partnered with Critical Path, which has experience in hosting e-mail applications. Critical Path will host the Corio messaging services, while Corio will provide client service.
Casanega says one major attraction of the hosted Exchange product is that Corio includes the Exchange license fee in its monthly bill, so enterprises don't need to worry about license maintenance. Corio also will handle some integration between Exchange and other products, such as Siebel Call Center.
Enterprises could go straight to Critical Path to purchase hosted messaging services, Casanega notes, but he believes Corio offers enough unique advantages to its service that this won't happen in most cases. In addition to the license management and integration, Corio offers users one point of contact, one bill for all enterprise applications and potentially better pricing, because Corio is a bulk customer of Critical Path, Casanega says.
Corio Messaging Solutions are available now. Hosted Microsoft Exchange pricing begins in the mid-US$20 range per mailbox per month, while Corio Messaging begins below $10 per month per mailbox.
