Feds set up online solutions exchange

The federal government has launched an online solutions exchange to create a commonwealth registry of providers in a bid to meet its deadline to have all services online by 2001.

Senator Ian Campbell, parliamentary secretary to the IT Minister, said the Solutions Exchange will be an easy-to-browse database containing information about solution providers' products and services.

Providers of online solutions can register for the exchange at www.govonline.gov.au and must meet the government's endorsed supplier arrangements to be eligible.

Categories for registration are: government e-procurement solutions; knowledge management solutions; online sales solutions; Web site evaluation services; Web site services; and digital certificate and PKI.

Senator Campbell said the exchange will officially open for business in February 2001.
