Novell and Network Associates Inc (NAI) have formed an alliance to protect NetWare customers against the growing number of virus and malicious code attacks.
Network Associates has launched two antivirus solutions, NetShield 4.1 and McAfee Total Virus Defense Management Edition 2.5, especially designed for Novell customers for antivirus defence within NetWare environments. NetShield 4.1 for NetWare provides server-level antivirus defense, while McAfee Total Virus Defense Management Edition 2.5 allows the distribution of antivirus software across NetWare servers, with reporting features that include snapshots of server defence readiness.
The companies will also bundle NAI's McAfee VirusScan with Novell's ZENworks, while NetShield products will be bundled with NetWare for Small Business.
NAI is hoping to woo users managing integrated Windows NT and NetWare environments by providing antivirus security for both, according to Allison Taylor, marketing manager for Total Virus Defense at NAI.
"Many companies split NetWare and NT administrative groups, so while Network Associates is easy to find in Wintel environments, the NetWare side of organisations didn't always know we had products on the Novell side," Taylor said. "With this deal, they can access the Network Associates security, then can select any other levels they need to close up virus entry points, especially through e-mail."
Total Virus Defense Management Edition and NetShield for NetWare, are available now as part of TVD Suite, with pricing for 1000 users at $US25 per node for an annual subscription. Novell's NetWare for Small Business is priced at $1295 for five users, and $70 per additional node.
