With the presidential elections fast approaching, the American Association for Public Opinion Research in Ann Arbor, Mich., recently sent out a warning that many Web-based surveys aren't effective at capturing true public opinion. Often, data from online polls is flawed because, unlike more scientific polls, online polls don't represent a cross-sample of the population and responses aren't obtained through random sampling, the group said.
