L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co. in the first quarter of next year will offer general availability of its WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) Gateway, aimed at allowing corporations to provide mobile electronic-commerce services to customers.
The gateway, which is server software, also will enable mobile office users to reach corporate intranets so that directories, calendars, e-mail and other services can be accessed, Ericsson said in a statement Wednesday. A company spokeswoman said that Ericsson would not provide pricing information at this time.
The WAP Gateway will support the WAP standard developed by the WAP Forum and will run on Windows NT. It is designed to interoperate with existing and future mobile systems, Ericsson said.
