In a move set to increase its Australian presence, e-business technology vendor DataMirror Corporation has signed high-end integrator Avnet Enterprise Solutions as a value-added reseller (VAR) of the Transformation Server and High Availability product suite.
Colin McKenna, regional manager of Avnet Computer Marketing Group, Australia/New Zealand, told ARN the deal would see the company move into new markets in Australia.
"We already have a fairly strong presence in the local enterprise market. The new offerings should strengthen our position and attract a whole new market of enterprise-level organisations that need the replication of data and the high-availability capabilities of DataMirror's offerings."
According to McKenna, the new deal with DataMirror is part of a steady expansion of the company's range of professional services.
Avnet Enterprise Solutions will provide the Australian market with DataMirror's e-Business solutions, such as the Transformation Server, which is designed to integrate data in real-time among heterogeneous computing environments. The other product featured in the deal is the High Availability Suite, designed to protect a business' critical data.
In order to provide appropriate support for the new offerings, Avnet has spent about six months paving the way for the product's launch on the Australian market.
"We already had a high level of technical expertise within the organisation, but we had to send people to Canada to train specifically in the DataMirror applications," McKenna said.
"It's not just a matter of learning about the offering. Our staff also had the opportunity to see the sorts of applications the offerings included and understand a little more about the process of implementation."
While McKenna concedes there are a number of products at the enterprise level that fulfil a similar role, he believes the DataMirror offerings have the edge in terms of speed and functionality.
This latest sales agreement with Avnet follows the opening of a new DataMirror regional headquarters in Hong Kong.
