Enterprise bargaining negotiations between IBM GSA and the CPSU (Community and Public Sector Union) are set to resume on October 31.
Despite negotiations continuing early last week, agreement had still not been reached with further talks planned at the end of the month.
The CPSU is seeking an enterprise agreement that covers all employees working on Telstra contracts; current arrangements cover only the 1000 staff who joined IBM when it won the Telstra IT outsourcing in 1997. (See CW, October 16, p1)CPSU industrial officer Priya Carey said the agreement excludes the 3000 staff who have joined the company in the past three years.
Westpac's decision to outsource its IT to IBM in late November will increase this number of workers on Telstra contracts by another 1000 staff, but Carey said no mention was made of the new banking staff at the most recent talk between the parties.
