Business Objects' new release contains CRM applications

Business intelligence software vendor Business Objects has announced the next generation of its analysis tool, Set Analyzer, designed with CRM applications in mind.

Set Analyzer 2.0 is a data analysis product suite designed to let users view the contents of a database and create segments of customer data that can be shared across multiple applications, or divisions, within a company.

Business Objects' director of marketing, Dr Wayne Applebaum, claims the release of Set Analzer 2.0 contains specific CRM "functionality" including a set of pre-built reports called CRM Report Suite, new visual set diagrams and an updated user interface.

"The CRM applications will allow companies to create marketing campaigns in a matter of days, rather than weeks," Applebaum said.

According to Applebaum, a former EDS man of 17 years, the new CRM functions will not go "head to head" with other CRM vendors, but will provide resellers with an "add-on" to sell into their existing CRM customers.

Despite its new functionality, Applebaum claims the Set Analyzer suite requires a different sell than most enterprise software, with the emphasis on the people who will use the software rather than IT managers.

"Resellers face a different kind of selling to marketing people than they do to IT managers," espoused Applebaum.

Since acquiring the distribution rights of its e-BI software from Executive Computer Group in August of this year (ARN August 9, page 16), Business Objects has not been the most channel-friendly of software vendors and the trend looks like it will continue. According to Applebaum, the company is looking to maintain its strategy of securing its high-end corporate and government contracts directly, while pushing its geographic and lower value contracts through the channel.

Set Analyzer 2.0 is available now for IBM DB2, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, NCR Teradata, Oracle and Sybase databases. Australian pricing was not available at the time of press.
