The WA Ministry of Justice awarded Unisys West, the joint-venture between Unisys and BankWest, its first contract, under which the IT service partners will streamline the agency's court systems administration and operations.
Under the four-year outsourcing agreement Unisys West will provide the WA Ministry of Justice with applications maintenance, enhancement and development, and other consulting services. Neither party would disclose the value of the deal, only saying it was worth millions.
Allen Koehn, general manager of Unisys South Pacific's public sector group, said there was a "need for new courts systems across Australasia". The deal is aimed at demonstrating the e-business solution group's commitment to a "national justice and public safety program, a Unisys initiative to build closer ties with courts and government agencies through technology-based, business solutions.
The WA Ministry of Justice may also extend the multimillion dollar contract for another two years, Unisys sources said. The agency includes Court Services Offender Management, Public Trust Office, Registrar of Births, Death and Marriages, the Crown Solicitors Office, Office of the Public Advocate, Parliamentary Counsel's Office and other services.
Unisys West specialises in B2B e-commerce transaction services, data centre outsourcing, business process outsourcing, managed services and application service provision.
