Alstom catches MTE

Melbourne Transport Enterprise (MTE) has named Alstom Information Technology as the successful bidder for its $3 million project to install and maintain its data network. The three-year project covers the rollout of servers, switches, routers and hubs into 32 sites, replacement of all existing WAN/LAN services and includes help desk and remote managed services on a 24x7 basis. MTE manages the Connex Trains section of Melbourne's suburban rail network. Alstom's solution is based on Citrix running on an SGI server platform which will be networked using Nortel equipment.

Davnet awards VoIP contract

Davnet Limited, provider of Internet protocol (IP)-powered telecommunications services, has awarded a multimillion dollar contract to Open Telecommunications (OT) to deploy a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) network. The solution is based on Cisco voice architecture and OTs' Call Control platform and applications, including preselection and number portability applications, as well as freephone (1800) and local rate (13) solutions.

Unisys West lands WA Justice

The WA Ministry of Justice awarded Unisys West, the joint venture between Unisys and BankWest, its first contract, under which the IT service partners will streamline the agency's court systems administration and operations. Under the four-year outsourcing agreement Unisys West will provide the WA Ministry of Justice with applications maintenance, enhancement and development, and other consulting services.

Unions fear outsourcing review a whitewashThe Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) has called on the federal government to include the public in its review of the controversial IT outsourcing program. CPSU national president Matthew Reynolds said all stakeholders should contribute to the review, which will be presented to the Minister for Finance and Administration John Fahey in December. Reynolds said.
