IPv6 shown in Hong Kong
Communications service provider SmarTone, with BT Wireless and Ericsson have staged the world's first end-to-end demonstration of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in Hong Kong. The trial was built on Ericsson's IPv6 system using BT's research and development activities. A BT Wireless spokesman said: "We trialled IPv6 on SmarTone's mobile network, including GPRS (Global Packet Radio Service) with currently available software, and wireless LANs and roaming between the fixed and wireless networks and IPv4/IPv6 interworking, all successfully." IPv6, with its 128-bit address base, enables more IP addresses to meet the needs of the growing device market, including PDAs, handsets, notebooks and video cameras, both for fixed and wireless services.
